I suppose I should lay this out now:

The universe this story takes place is its own, with absolutely no connections to any other. I'd very much prefer if your character is aged 10-16. If one of your characters appear later on in the story (as in not in the prologue) then you're okay with whatever age. And.. if you're planning on using a character from a video game world, let me know ahead of time incase I've got something planned that might contradict something.

Have fun, or something.

----------------

"Everyone! They're fightin' again!"

The sight and sounds of oceanic waves crashing onto land was found everywhere on the islet of Neo Grape Gardens. The island was named after the country on the mainland that laid several minutes away via rowboat.

While no one actually lived on the island, aside from a couple of natives, it was occupied by a group of kids on a daily basis. They would ask their parents if they could go to the island, then get onto their little row boats or sail boats and make their way to the little paradise near the mainland.

"Hey! Do ya think I should capture this moment by sketching it?"

"N-no!"

There were several little huts made on the island. They provided shelter incase of a sudden rain shower. The caverns added additional shelter. The caverns were provided by a huge rock formation in the center of the island. The rock formation was also home to many legends and stories. However, those stories are not important now. The story that is about to be unveiled will be the one remembered by future generations.

"Who in the what, now?"

"Dani and Kirb! They're dueling again!"

"Really? Sweet! Are they on the Table?"

"Yep yep!"

On the eastern tip of the island, there was a piece of elevated land that was named "The Table". It was an ideal place for sparring matches due to its round and flat formation. There were a few palm trees, but they grew in such strange ways that it did not interfere with any fights. Infact, those trees were great places for spectators to sit.

Two figures were circling each other in the center of the Table. One was a very short figure. No taller than three feet, this was a creature that was obviously not human, despite its emotions and mannerisms. It was a round, pink creature, with two pink flaps for arms and hands, and two red ovals for the traveling apendages. Its head and body were actually one. It was quite a bizzare creature, but no one bothered trying to understand the deal with it. The only bit of clothing it had was just the tattered red cap it had on its head.

The other figure was most definitely a human. Being one of the oldest ones on the island, this person's curvy definitions assured all that this was also a female. However, it would be safe to say that due to this girl's.. purple appearance, one could think she is not normal. She wore a purple tunic-shirt, with a long, purple mini-skirt. Her eyes matched her flowing, purple ponytail.

Both had their own wooden weapon. The pink creature had his in the shape of a broad sword. The girl had a hers to look like a bo staff.

Dani - You honestly think today is going to be different than any other day, little man?

Kirbynite: The wind's blowing my way. Just call it a hunch.

Hector sat on the beach watching them go at it.

Hector: "Show her up for once!"

Hector cheered out, Kirby seemed to always lose, but this time something did feel different. Perhaps they were just a lot closer this time than usual. Hector held his own stick, it could hardly be considered a wooden sword.

Johnathan: "Technically, he is right... The wind is blowing from the northeast at approximately fifteen miles per hour today, though I do not understand how it could possibly offer a tactical advantage."

A boy barely grazing 17 sat upon the branch of a palm, low-hanging and bent sideways so as to offer an easily-accessible branch for those who wished only to watch the matches upon The Table. He adjusted his glasses with hands that only barely fit around their ridiculously large lenses, and stared up into the sky at the clouds.

"I would surmise, however, that the confidence instilled within one who believes that something as unpredictable as the wind accompanies him would be a viable X factor to one's success. Thus, today will interest."

He pulled a small notebook from his knickers, and thumbed to the page wherein he logged the many matches that Dani and Kirbynite had held in his presence, marking with a simple five point tick mark the tallies of each victor.

A pair of columns had been drawn on this particular page, one labelled with each of the combatant's names.

Kirbynite's was, unsurprisingly, still blank after quite some time and an uncomfortably large amount of losses. Johnathan sighed. There was, truthfully, little evidence that today would be different from all of the others.

"Woo! Fight on and beat the crap out of each other!"

Lurenia Anore cheered loudly towards the two up on the Table. She loved watching the battles, if just so afterwords she could pick on both fighters for their faults. Even though she just turned 16, Lurenia acted very immature and was highly energetic.

She jumped back down on a log and sat, her hands flailing in the air. While the sun beat down she did not sweat, but then again she normally wore short shorts and a tank top that only managed to cover the top half of her body. Even during cold days she wore the same attire and managed not to complain too much, although many say its because she can be a hothead at times.

Draco: Ah... such agility... such power.... such beauty that is Dani!

Jack looked at his brother

Jack: And she's sure to notice you with all that drool leaking from your mouth.

Draco: Eek! *wipes mouth*

JDavis: You've been obsessed with her for as long as I can remember, and she wouldn't as much as give you the time of day.

Darco: That's not true! She gave me the time of day once.

Jack: How special.

Jack, Draco, and JDavis were known collectively as "the twinses" ... To a degree, it was true. Jack and Draco were twins, and were mostly identical. They were mushroom people, and there were two main difference between them. For one, Jack's "cap" was white with red spots where as Draco's was red with white spots. The other difference was their wings... a unique trait of theirs, not shared by others of their race. Jack had white wings like those of a bird, but Draco had wings like a bat... Nobody really knew why. JDavis, on the other hand was a human and wasn't related to Jack and Draco at all. He was, however, born on the same day as them, and they were all very good friends.

Outfit-wise, Jack and Draco even dressed similarly, both wearing vests, which was traditional of their race, with baggy cargo pants... Though the two went with radically different color schemes. Jack's vest was blue, and his pants were originally a very light blue, but had faded to the point of approaching white. Draco, on the other hand, wore a red vest and very dark black pants. JDavis opted, instead, for a blue t-shirt with a pull-string collar and jean shorts with a wallet chain.

Jack: Hm... I feel as if some time was just wasted on something needlessly descriptive.

Draco: Yeah, that would be my brain taking in every ounce of Dani's awesomeness.

JDavis: *sigh*

Dani twirled her wooden bo and held it behind her back. She held out her other hand and motioned Kirbynite to approach her.

Kirbynite grit his teeth and held out his wooden sword. The pink creature lunged forward, thrusting his sword ahead of him. The next thing he saw was a piece of wood appearing from behind a purple skirt and the same piece of wood thwacking the sword on the right side of the tip.

The purple girl swung her staff in such a motion that caused her short foe to change his course. However, that did not hamper Kirbynite. Using the same force exerted by Danielle's bo staff, Kirbynite spun around on one foot, allowing himself to become a spinning top.

Dani leapt back a few feet, away from the pink tornado. Growling, the girl held up her left hand. Her hand began emitting a purplish glow. Five sparks shot out and flew over to Kirbynite. Those five sparks exploded into purple smoke above the pink creature's head. The little pink creature was knocked off his spin and sent spiraling into the air. He managed to take control of his fall and attempted to attack from his position.

Kirbynite's weapon arm shot forward, launching the wooden sword towards Danielle. With a twirl of a stick, Dani smacked the sword into the ground. Unfortunately for Dani, she was too preoccupied with Kirbynite's projectile to notice the little creature's true motive. He came lunging at Dani with a flying headbutt.

The girl in purple was knocked over onto her back, with Kirbynite upside down on her abdomen. In just a few seconds, the fight was over with one final swift punch.

Dani - Ugh... Nice try, but little tricks aren't going to work if you can't follow it up.

Kirbynite was smacked into a nearby palmtree. He slide down the bark, and was laid out on the floor. He did not seem like he wanted to get back up.

Kirbynite: Ungh

Hector groaned as he stood up, matted brown hair turning this way and that as nearly clear eyes looked at the scene. For a second it seemed Kirbynite was going to win, but he lacked the follow through as Dani sent him into a tree. The fourteen year old hopped onto The Table to help Kirbynite up.

Hector: "You should really take my offer on sparring, you need to practice against someone who hasn't beaten you countless times."

Hector held out a hand to the pink creature with a laugh. He wanted to challenge Dani sometime, but maybe in a few years, after much more practice.

Lurenia jumped up and screamed in joy as the fight concluded the same way as it always did.

"MAN, that was intense! That was so close yet so not!"

...she wasn't even talking to anybody.

"ENCORE! ENCORE!"

JDavis: Kirb, one of these days you're going to break something... At least, if you've got anything to break.

Dani - I highly doubt the kid's in a condition for an encore.

Danielle, holding her bo behind her, turned around and hopped off of The Table. She slowly walked towards the huts located next to the crudely made docks.

Meanwhile, Kirbynite accepted Hector's assistance of getting back on his feet.

Kirbynite: Thanks.. I'll be fine with my training regime. I'll get it right eventually!

Hector: "Yeah, that training regime has sure racked up a lot of victories for you hasn't it?"

Hector laughed as he jumped off the table.

Hector: "Come on, between me and Johnathan we could make you a much better fighter, if only you'd accept the help."

Johnathan: "You do the fighting, Heck... I am content with my schoolwork for the time being, though I will admit that such a subject is one that Kirbynite could use an equivalent degree of training in."

Johnathan produced a pen from the breast pocket of his shirt, and marked yet another tick in favor of Dani on his listing. He sighed, and recounted the total.

Five... ten... twenty.... Forty three victories for Dani, and not a single one for Kirbynite. Why he continued to challenge her in nearly everything they attempted to do together was beyond Johnathan, but one thing was for sure -- Kirbynite had more resolve than a shounen anime protagonist. Johnathan would have given up years ago. It was not to say that Johnathan could NOT spar with everyone else, or run races or climb trees, simply that he preferred his books to his fists and feet. In a world of flash and friendly competition, he was the docile eye of the storm, and a fair contrast to Hector, whose hot-blooded friendship he had with him since their early childhood days.

"Kirbynite, that reminds me... Are we still participating in the tutoring session that I have scheduled this weekend? Your skills in our science class during the last semester make me wonder if you will even be progressing onward in school following the end of the summer break. I worry, you know."

"Hmph. Guess all of today's excitement is done for. Wonder what I could do now..."

Lurenia clenched her stomach as it growled deeply.

"...I know! I'll make me a sandwhich! Who wants one!?"

Hector: "Pfft, don't give me that line, you want him to win just as much as I do."

Hector looked back at Johnathan. Old friends indeed, Johnathan was the only reason Hector managed to survive school with anything like a passing grade. It wasn't that Hector wasn't good at school work, it's just that his parents didn't really push it on him. He wasn't going to do it on his own though! So Johnathan made him do it. Though there was much complaining, many excuses, and lots of small tricks, Johnathan had kept Hector doing well in school and Hector at least managed to get Johnathan outside.

It was a fair trade.

Hector: "I know you're one for odds and I'm sure you've counted exactly how many times Dani's one, so we could make a wager over it. We try to train him together and I bet he'd win the first time against Dani."

Johnathan: "Not this again... We have tried this in the past, if you will recall. He simply has not the patience nor the tactical or martial skill to spar evenly with both of us simultaneously. Besides, what point would there be? Another forty two victories, and another forty two sessions of 'training' to accompany it? Name your reason, and I will consider it."

The routine was simple and unfailing. One issued a challenge, and the other reasoned against it, whether the initiate be Johnathan or Hector. Whatever the case, the beginning party always won out in the end, and Johnathan anticipated that it'd be quite a long afternoon, indeed...

Kirbynite: I'm not worried about my losses! I mean, sure, it'd be easier if I take on others, but, you know!

Kirby looked off to the side, with his cheeks slightly puffed up.

Kirbynite: Yeah yeah... I'm still up for it the tutoring. I mean, I would've been just fine without it. But.. Kid really urged me to.. so.. meh.

"You can't take on me! I'd kick your behind waaaaayyy off this island! 'Course I'd need to find me a weapon that is just for me. Tee hee!"

"It's time for lunch~"

Johnathan: "Kid does appear to be your Kryptonite, yes. At least in terms of your studies..."

Johnathan's palm was to his face entirely through his dialogue. He sighed, disinterestedly, and knew that Hector's suggestion would be ridiculous, and the terms of his bet even further. Johnathan kicked down from his perch.

"So, Hector. What will our terms be? Victory for Kirbynite is your gain, and a loss is mine? And to the victor go...?"

Hector: "Well, uh..."

Hector mulled it over in his mind. He hadn't thought this far ahead.

Hector: "You'll do my homework if I win! And I'll uh..."

Hector had to think about this one harder.

Hector: "I... don't know what you want."

Hector narrowed his eyes. What was the worth of an easy A for him translated over to Johnathan.
